Review of Authory

A portfolio building site you can set going and forget about. That’s the content we’re all here for.

It feels very “meta” to be embedding a screenshot of Authory on my Medium blog…

Demand for content production of all kinds, from real journalism to branded features to blogging, has exploded.

But to keep growing in this game you have to be able to show folks what you can do. You need some kind of portfolio. I’ve been trying Authory out for a few months, comparing it to a list of tools that I always recommend to students — and it comes out very close to the top for them, and at the very top for more seasoned content creators.

Unlike some other clunky and cumbersome portfolio creators, Authory is simple and straightforward. The clean template makes all your work easy to read and access. It’s not particularly customisable, but that’s a feature rather than a bug. When editors and employers come to your portfolio, they want to see your work — not your WordPress theme.

Besides, you can change the header of the page to fit your preferred branding or design which — for the five to ten minutes others are likely to spend scrolling through your work — is all you really need.

So — stripped back presentation? Check. It also makes anything you add to an Authory portfolio really easy to read — no matter where it was originally published…
